Where are we (going)?
With the rapid transition to renewable grid power and electrification of transport, the carbon footprint of our operations will steadily decline. These are the main contributors and sustainability focus points we have identified Transport. Today, it is not practically possible to transport heavy freight such as machines across Europe using electric trucks or ships. However, as electrification on the transport sector continues, we expect this contribution to be net-zero within 10 years. As a business, we encourage working from home, when possible, to minimise transport emissions. Less traffic means less congestion and therefore reducing emissions of the remaining fossil car fleet. Besides, it frees up time for our staff to spend with family or do sport. Most of our commutes are already by car-sharing in electric vehicles. Energy. As a small business in a shared workspace, we are not currently deciding who our electricity and heating supplier is. However, as we mature as a business, we will be able to choose our own renewable energy supplier and invest in renewable energy initiatives such as solar power and a carbon-free heating system. This will reduce our running costs, carbon footprint, as well as our reliance on external factor like electricity prices. Steel. It is clear that the equipment is a significant contributor to the carbon footprint of our operations. One of our tool steel manufacturers, Uddeholm, is actively working on carbon-neutral steel using hydrogen. We expect that within 10 years, some carbon-neutral tool steels will be available and suitable for FSW. Operations. We are actively seeking customers who share a sustainable vision. Therefore, our focus is to work with clients in industries such as electrification, heat management and insulation, bikes and sports equipment.
